The TomTom XL 340S is an entry-level successor to the TomTom One, with a larger screen and some features shared with the higher-end TomTom GO devices.
With the addition of its IQ Routes Technology, the TomTom 340S provides users with the fastest route each time. Using actual average route speeds, this feature lets you select smartest route option instead of merely relying on the posted speed limits.
Text-to-speech technology in the XL 340s delivers spoken turn-by-turn instructions, including street names. Driving assistance can be delivered by different user-selected voices, including foreign accents and celebrity impersonations.
TomTom Map Share technology also adds another dimension to the usual driving experience, because users themselves are able to modify street names, street direction, POIs, road speeds, and turn restrictions on the device. The preloaded software includes over 7 million points of interest.
Another smart feature of the TomTom 340S is in its Advanced Lane Guidance technology, which provides photorealistic images on the road, adding clarity to complex multi-lane exits for a more convenient and confident drive. With this feature, usually only found in more expensive models, the GPS navigator shows lane diagrams with flashing arrows showing what lane to choose for upcoming turns or freeway exits.
A practical move was also neatly incorporated in the tracking device with the addition of the Fuel Price Service feature, which allows you to download fuel prices to help you find the nearest gas station with the lowest fuel prices.
Despite its inclusion in the "budget GPS" category, this TomTom GPS navigator delivers value beyond its price. With smart, time-saving IQ routes, accurate mapping and routing, text-to-speech and more, the TomTom XL 340S remains an excellent value in the automotive GPS market.
